Get ready for next term!

Well done to all who played in our December concert on Saturday. Finland (and seasonal trips to Lapland) may be short of snow this year, but we had both Sibelius’s Finlandia and an abundance of seasonal cheer this weekend.

Amongst settings of Christmas favourites, we also heard Elizabethan music set for wind band, young singers, a bassoon solo and Mozart from our string players.

Before the music, Certificates were awarded to our exam candidates for their outstanding performance last term: 14 exams entered, 4 passed with distinction and 9 with merit. Don’t forget that we offer exam candidates the chance to play at our open concerts in February and May at the exam centre — and that members and non-members are welcome to take part in these concerts too.

Although our term is now finished, come along to see us play and sing (or to join in) at Tesco Hardwick, King’s Lynn, on Saturday afternoon, 8 December!

Recorder Workshop: 12 May

If you play recorder — whether just a little or as a more advanced player — come along to our recorder workshop on 12 May! Open to all, both Music Centre members and non-members, and to players of all ages, the workshop will provide opportunities to play together and to put on a short performance at the end.

Just £10 for the afternoon (under-18s half price at £5; over-60s £8)

Calling all soloists…

Come and play and sing in our Soloists’ Concert on Saturday 3 February.

Open to all young musicians, adult learners and exam candidates, we are providing this opportunity for amateur players and singers to perform for a small, friendly audience. Ideal if you are preparing for an Associated Board exam, as our concert venue is also an exam centre for a lot of local students; you can try out the piano and get used to the acoustics of the church before your exam date.

We just ask each player or singer to prepare up to 5 minutes of music to play for others, and to be supportive of everyone else (many of whom may be performing for the first time). Beginners and experienced players, any grade level or none, and non-members as well as members of West Norfolk Music Centre all welcome.

There are still a few slots available, so contact us now if you’re interested in taking part and we’ll provide all the information you need. Email info@wnmc.org.uk.

Music at Heritage Open Day

Come and see musicians from West Norfolk Music Centre playing solos and duets at King’s Lynn Town Hall as part of the annual Heritage Open Day on Sunday 10 September. Spend the rest of the day in town exploring historic and notable buildings, riding the vintage bus or seeking out the wide range of events.

Our young players and adult students will be playing music from baroque to modern, classical to jazz, on a range of instruments. Find us in the Assembly Room at the Town Hall at 12pm, 1.30pm or 2.30pm. You can come and go as you please — listen to just one piece or stay a little longer — and it’s free of charge!
